Bombardier Delivers 1,000th Super-Midsize Jet – Challenger 3500

Bombardier announced the delivery of its 1,000th super-midsize aircraft with a Challenger 3500 aircraft going to JM Family Enterprises, a long-standing Bombardier customer, during a ceremony at Bombardier’s Challenger delivery centre in Montréal. More than 700 employees and invitees attended the event.

As highlighted by Eric Martel, President and CEO of Bombardier:

“Reaching the delivery of our 1,000th super-midsize aircraft marks a defining moment for Bombardier,” said Éric Martel, President and CEO of Bombardier. “This milestone is a testament to the dedication and exceptional talent of our employees, as well as the trust and loyalty of our customers around the world. It holds even greater significance as we are celebrating with a client who shares our family values, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to the community. Challenger super-midsize aircraft have been a game changer in the industry as they defined a new business jet segment, and we are excited to continue building on this legacy.”

Over the last two decades, Bombardier states its super-midsize aircraft have been the best-selling jets in their class, and the Challenger 3500 jet again led its segment in 2024 as the most delivered jet. Bombardier customers operate a fleet of approximately 5,100 aircraft, supported by 10 service facilities across six countries. Bombardier’s jets are manufactured in aerostructures, assembly and completion facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Challenger 300

Initially called Bombardier Continental, the Challenger 300 was formally introduced to the world in 1999 during the Paris Air Show and performed its first flight in 2001. The development started with a clean sheet, meaning that the 300 series was not based on any other variants. The first operator to offer commercial services with the aircraft was Flexjet , starting on 8th January 2004. In the following decade from the entrance to commercial space, 448 Challengers 300 series have entered service, growing to 550 in late 2015.

The highest comfort of longer air journeys – this was the goal of the creators of the Bombardier Challenger 300 aircraft. On board this super midsize jet, you can not only enjoy the pleasure of flying in spacious seats, but also sleep comfortably and eat a delicious, warm meal. Bombardier Challenger 300 – history

The aircraft was manufactured by the Canadian company Bombardier Aviation, a branch of Bombardier Inc. The company has been operating on the market since 1942. Its surprising name, however, has nothing to do with the arms industry, but comes from the name of its founder. Joseph-Armand Bombardier was an entrepreneur and inventor. He invented, among other things, the snowmobile. In order to sell these vehicles on a large scale, he opened a company that has survived to this day, but is now known not for scooters, but for high-class aircraft.

The Challenger 300 model was presented to the world in 1999 during the Paris Air Show, then called Bombardier Continental. The plane officially went on sale in 2004 and is still in production today. It found the most admirers in the USA, and that is where most of the production goes.

Bombardier Challenger 300 – specification

The plane belongs to the super midsize jet class. It has a range of 5741 km, which means that it can fly over the Atlantic or the entire US mainland on a single tank. This was the original assumption of the design of this model – to enable travel within the States without the need for a stopover.

The Bombardier Challenger 300 reaches a maximum speed of 891 km/h, which means that the intercontinental journey will take just a few hours. It is powered by two Honeywell HTF7000 turbofan engines.

For the user, the most important thing is the comfort of the flight – and in this aspect, the Bombardier Challenger 300 has a lot to offer. It can take up to 16 passengers on board, although in order to maintain maximum comfort, it is usually about 8-9 passengers with luggage.

The couch + Club configuration allows for a very comfortable flight and free conversation with fellow passengers. The couches and seats fold out to create 5 beds. There is a toilet and a kitchen on board, so you can eat hot and cold meals in a restaurant standard during the flight. There is also a well-equipped bar for passengers. A stewardess watches over the needs of passengers.

Bombardier Challenger 300 – flight price

The cost of flying on this comfortable and modern aircraft depends on many variables, especially the distance, number of passengers, date and other conditions.
