The degradation of the natural environment and ongoing climate change are topics to which we cannot remain indifferent. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, we have exploited the planet quite thoughtlessly, which has resulted in today’s pressing problems. But progress cannot be stopped – we have to lead everyday private and professional lives, and this often requires using means of transport that emit exhaust fumes and consume natural resources. Can we do anything to make air travel less of a burden on the planet?
Airplanes and ecology
Modern scheduled passenger aircraft cannot be considered ecological means of transport. They consume a large amount of fossil fuels, the resources of which are running out quickly. The plane also emits greenhouse gases, which has an impact on the atmosphere.
At the same time, we must bear in mind that there is not always an effective alternative to air travel. When we need to get from one place to another quickly or when our priority is to ensure the safety of ourselves and our fellow passengers, the plane is the only means of transport we consider.
Eco-friendly plane – is it possible?
Taking into account environmental issues, some carriers are trying to introduce pro-ecological solutions that reduce the negative impact of aircraft on the natural environment. Unfortunately, in the case of cruise lines, the responsibility is transferred to passengers – they are forced to pay an additional fee to support pro-ecological programs, and the allowable dimensions of luggage are also reduced.
Instead of burdening passengers with the environmental costs of flights, it would be better to focus on practices that are the responsibility of carriers, not their customers.
Eco-plane – what can be done?
At AMC Aviation, we are aware that airplanes are not environmentally neutral means of transport. Therefore, we make every effort to minimize the impact on the natural environment. All this happens without burdening our clients financially and mentally – which does not mean that we do not incur any costs associated with it.
At AMC Aviation, we use new generation aircraft that were designed and built with ecology in mind. Here are examples of solutions aimed at reducing the impact on the environment:
- Management of engines by FADEC and computers that optimize their operation, reducing fuel consumption and, consequently, lower CO2 emissions. Our small machines consume significantly less fuel than large cruise planes. This is also due to the fact that the planes are technically efficient and effective.
- Aircraft maintenance frequencies are extended to up to 12 months, so the generation of maintenance waste is limited to once a year.
- Ability to reach a cruising ceiling of 15 km above the ground, which translates into limited environmental impact.
- Information about the so-called empty legs, i.e. empty flights. In order not to waste the flight, our customers can use it at an extremely attractive price.
- We also think about the planet when handling aircraft on the ground. Large glass surfaces in our hangars minimize the power consumption needed for lighting.
- We carefully segregate waste throughout the company. Particularly harmful ones (such as grease or oil) are collected by specialized companies.
- We pay fees for CO2 production, which support the EU budget in implementing ecological projects.
Ecological flights – the future of aviation
Aerospace engineers are constantly working to increase the energy efficiency of aircraft, which will mean less environmental pollution. More and more efficient engines are being created, and tests of photovoltaic panels and alternative fuels are ongoing.
We closely monitor these achievements to implement pro-ecological solutions in our activities.
